Normally we bring the high horsepower performers of our fleet out on "Autogasm" events, but this week the pace was (not really) reduced. We limited horsepower to 250 and narrowed it down to the following five cars:

-2012 Fiat 500 Abarth

-2012 Scion FR-S

-1989 BMW M3 GrpA

-1974 BMW M2 (showed up later, not in video)

-1974 Porsche 911 MFI

Now this drive was meant to illustrate the fact that you don't necessarily need 500+ horsepower to have fun on four wheels. In fact, at CCC we wholeheartedly believe that the most fun can be had in lightweight, mid-low horsepower, handling-grip machines. Up, down, and around; it was like the ultimate spin-cycle of motoring variety.

Start off in the E30, engine up front, drive to the rear all nice and planted with the full cage and sport suspension. Then spin you right around into the wrong-engined rear-drive '74 911 with crazy camber and pray to the motorsport gods you don't lift mid-corner. Next up we'll flip over to the front-engine front-drive Fiat 500 Abarth, where torque-steer is a given as are cracklypop backfires from the fantastically Italian exhaust. Back on familiar ground in the '74 M2, this little Franken-BMW provides a much more road-going example of BMW's S14 motor. And finally, last yet certainly not least, the Scion FR-S is possibly the best all-around performance-per-dollar sports car you can buy today (unless you can afford a Stingray).
